On September 9, the orientation ceremony for students of 2019 was held on Chengdu Campus. 7000 students from all over China attended the ceremony.

Principal Zhao Jinzhou delivered a speech after the flag-raising ceremony.

Zhao warmly welcomed the coming of the students of 2019. He said, "The orientation ceremony not only intends to welcome all of you , but also celebrates the coming of age. I'm your senior, your teacher and your principal. And what follows is my expectations for you."

Zhao said, "You should love our country and cherish today's life. You should cherish the opportunity at the university and the friendship between you and your friends and teachers. Southwest Petroleum University is a gas station in your life, and an airport where you let your dreams fly. I wish you go beyond yourself, thrive at the university, enjoy your splendid youth, live a happy life, and your dream come true."

National outstanding teacher, professor Zhuang Jia congratulated all the new students. He hoped them to love our country in the first place, and be steadfast in the studies, understand every science principle they study, and master every skill they acquire. He encouraged students to explore and understand how things work, improve their comprehensive skills, and become talents desired by our country.

As the parent of a student, Li Shuqing, Department of Geology 93' alumni, said to the students: “Today, as the parent of a student, and an alumni, it's my honor to attend the opening ceremony. At first, I would like to express my sincere gratitude and respect to the teachers. Then, I hope students can take care of yourself, talk with your parents often and share your fantastic college life with them. Secondly, I hope you can work hard and serve our country. Thirdly, I expect you to have a healthy lifestyle, and take care of people around you.

Li Yichen, a student majoring in accounting, spoke on behalf of all students of 2019: "Today we meet in the university. We shall carry on the ambitions of the older generations at SWPU, empower our university with fresh vigor, and create a better future for our country with perspiration and perseverance."
